Question: I am female age 70. I teach dance 5 days a week (tap, ballet and jazz) and have done so my entire life! For the last 2 weeks I get dizzy, fainting and weak. Have to set! January 6, I had a full checkup with my doctor that came out fantastic. My A1C was perfect , I had lost 28lbs, colestrol and blood pressure perfect. He was so proud of me! I am not diabetic any longer but he did keep on Metafomin and Licinipril (10 mg once a day) and 1/2 of a stain drug every other day. He said it's like insurance at my age! I have now lost 14 more lbs as my taste buds after a virus changed and food tastes so bad to me so I have to force myself to eat which is not much. Hope you can help?

Brief Answer:
It can be Hypoglicemia, hypotension or simply Stress.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I have gone through your question in details and I can understand your concerns.

I'm happy for you that all the test results have come out within the normal range. This means that your primary body functions are Okay and you have no major physical problems.

As endocrinologist, I can say that Metformine may be a factor that cause your weight loss. Anyway i'd suggest to discuss with your doctor about this and about the other options of the treatment of Diabetes (like exercises and a diabetic- diet meal plan.)

Your symptoms can be attributed to hypoglycemia. For this reason my advice is to do some blood glucose measurements while you feel these symptoms to confirm or exclude this diagnose.

Metformin does not cause hypoglycemia, but this does not exclude this diagnosis as a potential cause for your actual situation. So, let me know your blood glucose results when you feel weakness and fainting.

Another culprit of your symptoms can be Hypotension. So, do check even your blood pressure several time during the day and let me know the results.

Another factor that can cause or trigger your symptoms is stress. Try not to worry too much and reduce the stress and you will feel better.

Hope this is helpful.
If you have other questions, feel free and ask. I'll be happy to help.
Take care.
