Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Cough And Cold In A Child
Question: Hi,
My 2 year old baby girl has recurrent cough and cold. She used to wake up in the middle of the night(disturbed sleeping). We did an x-ray. Doctor said she has cold in her chest. Her ESR rate is 64 mm/hour. She has been injected with PPD today and waiting for the result. she lost 800grams of her weight on 2 weeks. Is there any possibility of her getting Primary complex?.

Brief Answer:
Primary complex can be detected on Chest Xray
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Weight loss and high ESR points towards infectious process. If you are worried about primary complex (primary TB) it can be well diagnosed with Chest Xray. Was the Xray not evident? I suggest to get GeneXpert MTB (RadioImmunoflourescne) for rapid diagnosis of TB.
This is the advance and specific test as well. This helps quick starting Anti TB medicines. Please consult a TB expert / Chest physician who are experts in this than a regular Pediatrician.
