Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Tonsillitis In Child

Question: my child is six year old and many times he is suffering from Tonsil. Is their any permanent solution is available for Tonsil.

1. Recurrent tonsillitis is a condition that happens when there is repeated infection of the tonsils.

2. Initially attempts are made to treat with antibiotics and I hope your child has been treated regularly with antibiotics.

3. The permanent treatment of tonsillitis is through tonsillectomy and in this procedure, the ENT specialist surgically removes the tonsils. After tonsillectomy, the child can lead a normal life.

Following international criteria are important before considering tonsillectomy surgery in a child

(i) At least seven episodes of tonsillitis in the previous year, or
(ii) At least five episodes in each of the previous two years, or
(iii) At least three episodes in each of the previous three years

thank you for your reply but is their any other means without surgery. due to tonsil my child get fever which comes every 4 hrs . he is already going under antibiotics and will get well soon. but if their is any other means which can treat the tonsil then please advice.

1. Since you had inquired about permanent treatment therefore surgery was suggested for your child.

2. Tonsillitis is a common problem in children, however if your child is 6 years old then you might continue with medicine treatment for some more time before thinking about surgery.

3. Once he gets well with antibiotics then you might try preventive methods to stop or minimize tonsillitis. Maintaining hygienic conditions and teaching your child to wash hands before eating is important. Please avoid exposure to cold weather and keep him warm. You might tell him to do throat gargle if possible twice a day and this will keep his throat free from disease causing organisms.
