How To Overcome The Recurring Problem Of Sore Throat And Tonsillitis ?

For years I ve suffered with a sore throat on and off in the spring and in winter.Once as a teenager I even had strep throat. But through it all my throat, tonsils, etc always returned to normal. Also once every so often I ve always gotten tiny tonsil stones that are just little bigger than a sesame seed.About 3 years ago I had tonsillitis for a week or a little over a week. After it passed my uvula still had red veins on it that were hard to miss.Since then my tonsils would randomly swell up feeling like I had a lump in my throat.Sometimes it was only my right tonsil though but this time it was more than my right tonsil swelling. This time a hint of tonsillitis tried to flare up.I tried to treat it in a way that would normally knock off any cold or virus. The Apple Cider Vinegar stopped it for awhile but it returned a day later. Before it returned I noticed that my tonsils had red veins just like my uvula does. Also my tonsils are pale (that may be due to me being kind of anemic) my left one bled a little when I tried to remove the white/pale yellow stuff from it.My question is what are the red veins from and will I ever be able to get rid of them? Also does the night air keep infecting me with tonsillitis?I ve noticed that everytime I m out at night, especially during the winter that I end up sick in some way the next morning.I apologize for typing so much but I wanted to fully explain what led to my current situation.Thank you.

Hi and thanks for the query,
The red blood vessels on the tonsils indicate that the tonsils are congested secondary to infection. Once the infection subsides the tonsils get back to their normal colour.
If you get exposed to very cold air then the chance of developing an upper respiratory tract infection are high. This is because when exposed to very cold or very dry air the upper respiratory tract is not very efficient in fending off viral and bacterial infections. Keep doing warm salt water gargling often when you get exposed to cold air.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding recurrent tonsillitis which you observe as swollen tonsils with red vessels over it and time to time yellow spots over it.

Thinking on your clinical history it appears as you are suffering from CHRONIC TONSILLITIS. The red vessels you had ever seen on tonsils are the congested veins. The white or yellow debris is the infected slough.

To manage this you have to do these basic investigations-

1- Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

2- X-Ray paranasal sinuses.

3- X-Ray chest (P.A. View).

4- Blood- CBC, ESR, blood sugar (F & PP).

Inferences of these investigations along thorough clinical examination will be helpful in planing for treatment.

Regards.
