Suggest Treatment For Right-sided Pain In Temple And Sore Neck

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Question: For almost two weeks now I've been having headaches and pain around my timple only on my right side. My neck is pretty sore and the pain comes and goes all day. I don't take any medicine for it because it dosen't get that bad. Also sometimes when I'm laying down and I'm reading or on my phone my left hand will go numb and I have to shake it to get the blood flowing again. My last physical was in May and she did a full blood work up and check all lymph nodes and reflexes and everything was normal. I'm worried that I have something serious and I have three little children. I have been under extreme stress lately and I'm not sure if that could cause all this.

Brief Answer:
Probably stress symptoms, inflamatory causes need to be excluded.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

If the pain you describe is located at front side of the temple, or ear it is more probably related to Temporomandibulary joint disfunction, or tooth problems.

If the pain is located behind the ear and back part of the temple, most probably is related to neck conditions such arthritis, herniated disc, or compression of upper cervical nerves ( occipital neuralgia).

Neck condition could explain and arm symptoms too.

All these mentioned conditions are benign in nature and, in my opinion, you have no need to worry about something serious.

There is need for a Dentist evaluation and as a start a x-rays of cervical column in order to properly diagnose the cause of your concerns.

If above mentioned possibilities as causes of your symptoms are excluded, your symptoms are most probably related to anxiety and stress.

If you were my patient, I would recommend a trial of NSAID drugs ( Ibuprofen eg.) for 10 days as a diagnostic test too.

If the pain subsides, its nature is Inflamatory ( arthritis, TMJ disfunction, teeth problems).

Symptoms related to stress usually don't subside after NSAID use.

I recommend you to discuss with your primary care Doctor about all these issues.

I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Take care.
