Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain

Question: I used to get severe stomach pain once in a month. Investigation reveled that amylase serum is 228. I am daibetic and take insulin injection to keep sugar under control. My HbA1C is 6.5 % and average glucose is 154 mg/dL. The test also has found that my haemoglobin is low 6.5%. It looks like the high amylase serum level may be the cause for my periodic stomach pain. What is the treatment or medicine I should take to prevent recurrence of stomach pain. Please advise. My email Id is YYYY@YYYY . ...Ms XXXX

Your elevated Serum Amylase levels are not that significant. Commonly it is elevated in Acute pancreatitis. Levels may go upto 1000 to 2000.But,pancreatic disease has to be ruled out.
You should go for Upper GI endoscopy to rule out ulcers in the stomach /Duodenum.CT scan abdomen has to be done to rule out Pancreatic pathology.
Please consult a Surgical Gastroenterology, get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.

Sir, has the haemoglobin count 6.5 (Low by normal levels) and PCV/HCT 23.2 (low by normal levels) has any link to higher serum amylase levels i.e., 228 in my case. please confirm. I also consulted nearby physician. He advised food supplement (haemo rich tonic twice a day) to raise the haemoglobin level.During the consultation the doctor also checked my BP. it was 60/104 - low by normal standards. All this indicate anything abnormal in my health. Please advise. The lab reports are already uploaded. Looking fwd to your advise and future course of action in these aspects also. Anaemia has no link to Serum Amylase levels.

I saw all the reports.
Serum Amylase has no link to Anaemia.You should correct the anaemia by taking medicine as adviced by your physician.
Your BP is low.But,it has to be checked regularly to confirm low BP.
These things can be managed medically.
Please rule out Pancreatic disease by taking Contrast enhanced CT scan abdomen.

Sir, The lab tests were done when I had the pain. Now I am normal and have no symptoms of the pain. Energy level wise I am feeling normal unlike the time I had the pain. Do you recommend a lab test, only for Serum Amylase level, in this condition, to verify whether the level remains at 228 or at normal. Amylase level has raised,but not significantly.
There is no need for Serum Amylase test now.
As it indicates pancreatic disease commonly, get a Contrast enhanced CT abdomen to rule out Pancreatitis.
