Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea In A Child

Question: Hi Doctor,
My son is 6 M old and weighing around 5.9 KG. He is having yellowish loose stools with water from three days. He is passing stool approx 6 times a day from last three days. He is passing urine 6-7 time a day also. He is bottlefeed baby and taking his feeds normally and doesn't have any rashes in hips. We have checked the pediatic here and she has given z & d drops for diaherrea.
Being father for the first time, i am bit worried. Can you please help with this. What needs to be done or medicine which is given is correct.

Brief Answer:
Continue same medicines
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Can understand your concerns.
Loose stools usually take 3 to 4 days to settle. The main thing that we have to take care is of dehydration.
Zinc drops are correctly given. Yellow stools is also a normal thing. If child is passing urine more than 6 times than it means that dehydration is not present.
Give milk properly to child to prevent dehydration.
If loose stools persists than you should get the child re examined by doctor.
I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.

Thanks Doctor,
We want to start solids in another three four days. Can we start those, as he is as of now having loose motions.
Is the weight is correct.

Hi,
Welcome once again.
Weight at 6 months of age should be around 6.5 kg. So it's little less.
Wait for 3 to 4 days before starting semi solid foods. Let the loose stools settle.
Take care.
