Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Have you had a throat culture done with a throat swab at the doctor's office? Because this could be a bacterial infection. If it is strep, you will want to take an antibiotic to prevent complications from that bacteria (such as rheumatic heart problems).

This could also be due to a foreign body in the tonsil - but again, there may be an infection there from this.

If it is not bacterial, then figuring out what is keeping this sore throat going is important. If there is persistent drainage down the back of the throat from an allergy, modifying your exposures to the allergen, and taking a steroid nasal spray such as Flonase may help.

But given how long this has been going on, I highly recommend you go in to see your doctor or go to an urgent care clinic. They should examine you and also do a throat swab. They can do a couple of things immediately with the throat swab such as a rapid strep test, but should also send it to the lab for an actual culture.

If you decide to go in to an urgent/immediate care clinic, request to see an MD (physician) as they may just have all "sore throats" seen by a PA (physicians's assistant) or NP (nurse practitioner). But given they do not have nearly as much training, and as this has not gone away in 4 weeks, I think it warrants seeing a real doctor.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

Hi, so does this not look like it could be a std in the mouth? Or does it look more like a bacterial infection like strep or something.

Thoughts on this

Detailed Answer:
It would really need to be tested with a culture to know what is causing it. Although if a doctor examines your throat and see a tonsillar stone or other foreign body, then that can explain it, but if there is pus present, it should be cultured.
