Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: I have intermittent swollen glands under my jaw line. Sometimes on both sides, sometimes on one side. I suffer from allergies and have a post-nasal drip although I use Flonase and take momtelukast. Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
May be enlarged submental or submandibular lymph nodes

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcaremagic,

It is possible that there are submental or/and sub mandibular lymph nodes.

Lymph nodes are found in different areas of the body. They respond to inflammation in their surrounding areas. Allergies are a source of inflammation and can cause lymph nodes to increase in size.

This can be confirmed by an assessment by your doctor

It is possible that this is the source of the enlargement, but you can consider a complete blood count to look for any changes to the white cell count.
The white cell count can provide a small amount of information about allergies. It also goes very high if there are more dangerous issues that may be contributing to enlarged lymph nodes.

If solely related to allergies, treatment of the gland consist of controlling the allergies.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
