Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Twisted Ankles

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: A month ago I fell off a step and twisted my ankle badly. Since I could get around, I continued on with my chores. About 5 or 6 hours later the ankle was so painful that I couldn't walk on it and it was VERY swollen.
I went to our Urgent Care Center and they took a few xrays. They said it was a VERY BAD sprain and they wrapped it up. Then I went home and stayed off it awhile. I was able to get around. After about a week I removed the bandage and the swellng had gone down a bit but not all the way.
That is why I am writing you today. It's now a full month after my accident. Tonight my ankle and top of my foot is very swollen still and the top of my foot hurts when I put pressure on it. I can't stand this anymore. How long will it take to go down? Should I be doing anything special to reduce the swelling of my foot?
Please help.

Brief Answer:
Couple of months to heal.

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Sprains generally heals in two months. One month has already passed so you are likely to take one more month in the healing.

Rest to joint will be beneficial. Your swelling and pain will be reduced by elevation of limb specially in resting period. You can take analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. Vitamin B and C help in healing. BK cast ( plaster cast) will be best to promote healing. If possible discuss about BK cast with the treating doctor.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
