Brief Answer:
There is an infection in the throat which might get cured with antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks fir writing in.

Your MRI scan neck shows that there in enlargement of the tonsils in throat which can be due to infection.

There are few lymph nodes on both sides of neck which may have slightly enlarged due to an infection.

In conclusion, the findings show the possibility of a bacterial infection in the throat which can be cured with antibiotics.

Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
Lymph node is to be matched with clinical symptoms and duration

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

If you have symptoms of throat infection associated with tonsil enlargement then the possibility of a cancer is almost nil. The lymph nodes are isolated and relatively small.

What you read online is relevant to patients having a growth in the throat and neck region and if in that situation they have a lymph node over 10 mm then cancer spread is suspected.

In a patient who is asymptomatic and if there is small lymph nodes in the neck then a follow up is recommended.

Therefore in the setting of throat infection of few days duration, a possibility of cancer will rarely exist.

Hope your query is answered.

This was I January and I guess I needed a follow up and never went. Which has me scared. I dont remember being sick but my tonsils are still big which they have always been. I'm very worried that because I didn't follow up this could be cancer and could be really bad. Please give me your honest opinion. Does this report indicate at all cancsr?

Brief Answer:
The report does not show cancer but follow up is recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writng back with an update.

Based on your MRI scan report, it does not look like a cancer. However follow up is recommended in every case.

Since the scan was done in January therefore it has been a while and you can get back to your doctor for a clinical examination of the neck.

In most probability there should not be any significant increase in size of lymph nodes if you do snot have any chronic fever and weight loss. A cancer is suspected if there is significant weight loss, fever, more lymph node swellings or lumps anywhere in the body and fatigue. If you do not have these feature then cancer is unlikely.

A visit to your doctor is recommended.

Hope your query is answered.
