Question: Hello, I was at the gym laying on the floor doing a sit up when I started to get this terrifying sensation that begin as I was doing my left crunch. It begin on my right side and quickly traveled to my lower jaw. I jumped up and quickly stood it immediately stopped but now my jaw feels sore.
Brief Answer:
If this happens again then you need to take salt
Detailed Answer:
Hello, I have studied your case I think you have muscle spasm in jaw. This can be due to excessive loss of salt during exercise. I hope this should be only a single episode. In case this happens again you need to take glass of water with one tea spoon ful of salt. So take regular calcium for three months and vitamin D 3 per week for six weeks.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you. Let me know if you have any other follow up questions. Thanks

Hello Dr. Sharma:
Thank you for your help I never dreamed what caused my frightening episode. I had a bag of Lay's potato chips last night with my salad was that not enough? Bag was the $1.39 bag I believe 6oz. How do I know when I consumed a sufficient amount of sodium is my real question.

Brief Answer:
No you need to take salt when you have such cramps
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I am not saying that your diet has less calcium. When ever you do exercise that time there is decrease in sodium level and it can cause spasm. If you take salt immediately with glass of water then it can take care of sodium deficiency. Also some time it can be due to lack of Vitamin D 3 and calcium. So if there are many attacks then take calcium and vitamin D as per doses I suggested.
Thanks
