Suggest Treatment For Uncontrollable Sugar Levels

Question: my blood sugar is 354. I am taking 1.8 of victoza and metformin 2 x daily. I also have 1Mg of glimepiride and would like to take one to get my sugar down . Is it OK
Brief Answer:
Sugars are high. Need additional medicine
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Your random sugars are very high. How is your HbA1c (3 months average blood glucose)?
Victoza is an injectable replacement for Januvia. Since the sugars are very high you require additional medicines in form of glimipride or insulin. Usually we look at HbA1c to decide on this. If it is more than 9 %, it is better to start on insulin.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.

Can I add that to my regemin of Victoza and metformin to get my blood sugar down for now, I have an appt with endocrinologist in February but want to get my sugars down now. My 3 month test was an 8
Brief Answer:
you can add a small dose
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Welcome back
You can add a small dose of Glimepiride 1 mg in the morning 1/2 hr before breakfast. You have to watch for hypoglycaemia ( low sugars) since Glimepiride cause low sugars while your Victoza and Metformin won't.
Have a low calorie snack between breakfast and lunch. Tighten up your diet and exercise.
Your HbA1c is slightly high. But can control it with adding Glimepiride.

I have pills that are 1mg. can i take a whole one daily
Brief Answer:
Usual starting dose is 1 mg
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,
Welcome back
The usual starting dose if Glimepiride is 1 mg. The dose is increased or decreased by blood sugar values.
The dose reducing side effect is hypoglycaemia. If you develop low sugars on Glimepiride 1mg the dose has to be reduced to 1/2 tablets. If further hypoglycaemia occur the medicine has to be stopped. If sugars are high the dose can be increased on a weekly basis by1 mg. Though the maximum dose of Glimepiride is 8 mg/day, we rarely go beyond 6 mg/day. When you visit your doctor discuss about all these changes with doctor
Hope this will help you
