Suggest Treatment For Upper Respiratory Infection

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: On Feb 20th I had a one night stand. Then next day I starting showing signs of a uti. I went to an epn on that's following Wednesday where I was treated for both the uti and upper respiratory infection.( ciproflaxen 250 mg 2xs a day and Amaxcillin 875 mg every 12hours.) The upper respiratory went away, the symptoms for the uti went away except for the urgency to urinate. I did a follow up with my PCP and was put on Sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim for a week. My urgency still did not clear and both urine cultures came back neg. For infection. My PCP put me on ciproflaxin (500mg) for a week on march 23rd. Took only two doses. My period ended march 30th the concern is this milky white thick discharge I'm getting. I've had it before and now after my cycle. It is odorless quick drying. I have redness around the vagina. Other then that no issues except for the urinary urgency. I treated for a yeast infection on Thursday April 2nd and now I only get large amounts of this discharge in the morning when I first get up. My urinary urgency has improved a lot. Is this discharge something I should be worried about. I tested negative for STD and Pregnancy. I see a gynecologist on the 10th.

Brief Answer:
need not worry about white discharge

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
In my opinion the thick white discharge along with redness around vagina might suggest vaginal infection or some allergy
There are many types of vaginal infection like bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis etc.
As you have no itching yeast infection might
not be the possibility. Moreover you have been treated for yeast infection.
But definitive diagnosis of type of infection is possible on physical examination and microscopic examination if necessary.
Dont worry white discharge is seen in simple vaginal infections and it might not indicate STD always.
So relax. If infection is confirmed you might need a course of respectively antibiotics.
Wear loose cotton inners.Avoid heavy scented perfumes or powders or soap in that area.Use mild soap to wash the area.
Drink adequate fluids upto 3 litres per day to prevent UTI.Coconut water and cranberry juice are also helpful.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
