Suggest Treatment For Weak Left Ankle
I have a slightly weak left ankle, due to which I have a tendency to slip on my left foot while changing directions during a game of football or rugby.
I have been typically using an Aptonia basic Ankle support when I workout barefoot, but I am unable to use it freely while wearing a shoe.
I would like to know what are my options to ensure that I get a good support on my ankle while playing, which can be worn with the shoe on and something which does not hamper my movement.
Also, I have got this checked with a local doctor multiple times who repeatedly said that from the X-rays it looks fine, but just that the joint maybe under pressure during intense activities.
Hence, I want to understand how can I best manage this.
Need a MRI of ankle.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I am Dr Gopal Goel , Orthopedic Surgeon.
After going through your description of weakness in the left ankle and support required for it. You have not mentioned any injury but seeing that this problem occurs only during sudden twists in sports field , I think that you might have had some injury in the past like ankle sprain which did not heal properly and has resulted in chronic disability.
Ligament injuries don't show on X ray. First of all I would suggest you undergo a MRI of the ankle to know if you have any damage which can be repaired. For minor chronic injuries now we also have non operative treatment like PRP.
If you still want something to be used as a support in shoe , you can get customized ankle support which can be used in the shoes.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
