Question: My 84year old Aunt is in nursing home . She has weeping edema in upper and lower extremities. They have wrapped her arms so that her clothes will not get wet. Is this usual? She is taking Lasik. She has been back in nursing home two weeks came from hospital. Is there something else that can be used if diuretic is not working? Thank you
Brief Answer:
Treatment depending on the cause of failure...
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I am sorry for your Aunt.
I need to know if she is suffering of cardiac failure or renal failure. If her diagnosis is cardiac failure, then, spironolactone is advised as added therapy.
If she is suffering of renal failure, then, complete blood count, liver/kidney function testing together with electrolytes are advised to get checked. If hypoalbuminuria is present, then, she should be given albumin in order to reduce edema.
Hope it helped!
All the best to your Aunt!
