Suggest Treatment For Wrist Pain After An Injury
Question: My daughter fell on her arm, and experienced wrist pain for the first hour (though she could bend her wrist - with discomfort). A few hours later, the wrist was feeling better (after icing) and she now experiences pain while twisting her forearm side to side. Range of mobility in twisting is maybe 20% of normal, where she says it hurts too much to twist further. She has pain on the inside of her wrist, and then along her forearm toward the inside elbow, but only when some medium pressure is applied. Seems to me like a strain or sprain, not a broken bone. Can you advise?
Brief Answer:
Wrist
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for your question. I am sorry about your daughters injury. After an injury like this, where the patient seems to be reasonably well. A wait and see approach is perfectly acceptable. You can take this approach for 48 hours. If the symptoms improve, you can continue to observe. If they don't, however, a consultation with your doctor is recommended. After an exam it may be deemed necessary to visit an orthopedist have the arm x rayed. Again, however, at this point we can wait.
