Question: I am a bit overweight with a BMI of around 30 (90Kgs of weight and a height of 1.73M). I want to achieve a BMI of 25 over the next 6 months and want to lose around 6-7 kgs in the next 8 weeks.

Welcome to HCM! I am a Registered Dietitian and have spent almost 9 years specializing in obesity.

Let me start with just basics to let you know what you are dealing with. You sound very educated about the scope of your problem. What have you tried in the past and what has worked? What hasn't worked?

To calculate caloric needs I shall need your age. Also helpful would be to know whether you are vegetarian or not and your general lifestyle.

I shall encourage you to exercise. That is absolutely essential to your success even if it is only walking briskly. Please tell me what exercises you can and are willing to do and I will set up an exercise program for you.

To lose 6-7 kg in the next 8 weeks you will have to achieve a caloric deficit (through eating reduction and exercise) of 1,250 calories per day. I do not know if this is achievable in 8 weeks healthfully.

Speaking of health, to devise a caloric regimen, I also need to know your health status as I would not want to encourage you to exercise too intensely unless you have a healthy heart to start with.

Kindly send me your age, any supplements you take, a typical days food intake, whether you are vegetarian or not, tell me about your health. I will provide you with the number of calories it is taking to maintain your weight, talk to you about an exercise program and target heart rates, send you a sample diet depending on whether vegan, lacto-ovo vegetarian or regular diet at an appropriate calorie level.
