Brief Answer:
I would recommend to see a dietitian;

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone carefully through your concern.
Cutting down the carbs is the right diet that helps to improve the glucose level but it should be determined by a dietitian after evaluating some individual characteristics such as; your weight, the physical activity you do during the day, the goal of kg you should loose in one month, concomitant diseases ect.
It is not recommended to start a drastic diet because it may cause serious side effects and does not last for long.
Normally we recommend to loose 10% of your weight in a year ( of course if you are obese).
For the moment i would recommend to check the blood sugar and if it under 70 mg/ dl it means that it is too low and you should take 15 gr of carbs.
So, your doctor should suggest you to see a dietitian and if it is not possible, do an individual plan of the amount of the calories you need to take in a day and it's distribution during the day after having into consideration the above mentioned characteristics.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
