Suggest Ways To Deal With Side Effects Of Steroid Therapy In Teens

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Nov 2014
Question: Hello

I underwent some steroid therapy in my teens.

Nowadays i feel unable to enjoy life due to this past event.

I would like to know whether Androgens bind to face , voice receptors, in prepubertal boys with prepubertal testosterone levels. When these boys experience adrenarche, we know androgens have binded to hair follicle receptors in their pubic area and axillary areas...but do the same androgens bind to their voice , face areas during this time despite absence of clinical signs?

Please provide advice.

Brief Answer:
You may relax

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for posting on HealthCareMagic. The first thing I would ask you to do is to relax. Male hormones like testosterone are secreted in response to androgens. The adrenal glands secrete steroid hormones which have several functions. They can be grouped into three types. While one of the types is sex steroids, the other one has anabolic actions. The androgenic effects occur on various organs of the body especially on the sex organs and the secondary sexual characteristics. At microscopic level, in biochemical parameters, there is interaction of these substances on the receptors in the parts involving secondary sexual characteristics but the effect is very short lived. It is not like the androgens stick to some receptors and remain there. There is constant turnover of these hormones and they are destroyed immediately after use. So the doses that you took once upon a time are long gone. The effect is very short lived unless the body produces a constant backup of these substances naturally.

So, I guess things are just fine and you need not worry. Please revert back in case you have any further queries.

Dear Dr XXXXXXX thank you for the valued advice.

My problem is the 'first time' there was interaction of these substances on the receptors was substance from outside ie exogonous androgens.

Unless, prior to treatment, at microscopic level, there already is interaction between prepubertal amounts of endogonous androgens and these receptors?

Thanks and Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Specify the adverse reactions if any

Detailed Answer:
Could you be more specific and tell me what specific adverse reactions did you suffer, if any. Also tell me why you think you had some interactions. I mean to ask about any investigations, any specific doctor's explanation or any problems that you faced. Unless you mention those, it is difficult for me to comment. Even if I assume that there were intereactions, they are likely to be short lived and not likely to last anyway.

No adverse reactions from treatment.

But i have another question.

Before my treatment i was prepubertal with associated prepubertal (low) levels of testosterone

Do these low levels also interact with its receptors, biochemically at microscopic levels?

This is my question

Thanks and best Regards

Brief Answer:
Simply relax

Detailed Answer:
If there were no adverse reactions, there is simply no reasons for you to worry. It so happens that our body is a big chemical reactor with a lot of chemical interactions going on continuously at various parts of the body. There are receptors, mediators and all sorts of things that keep happening. Even while you are looking at the screen and processing the information, there are so many interactions going on in your eyes, brain and also entire body. Under normal circumstances, we do not even realise that these are going on. When you took the medicines, similar things had happened. Since the level of testosterone was less, there was less amount to interact and hence less biochemical reactions and hence less secondary sexual characteristics I guess.

thanks Dr XXXXXXX for your valued advice.

Just to confirm, prepubertal levels of testosterone still do interact with its receptors in prepubertal boys. Correct?

Brief Answer:
Irrspctiv of puberty testosteron reacts wth recept

Detailed Answer:
Definitely prepubertal levels of testosterone also interacts with its receptors. It is just that the levels of testosterone are low and hence the effect insignificant. Puberty occurs after testosterone has reached an optimal level.
