Brief Answer:
Exclusive breastfeeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
All newborn babies lose weight in the first 10 days of life.
It is a normal phenomenon.
No need to worry.
Usually upto 10% loss is acceptable.
In your baby it is more than 10%.
But there is no need to panic.
If baby is active and feeding well and passing urine atleast six to eight times a day there is no need to worry.
All that I suggest is to continue exclusive breastfeeding.
Milk output could be low initially but only with continuous sucking it improves.
In the second week milk output increases very well.No need to supplement with any formula.
Ensure one side is empty before switching to other breast. This will ensure baby gets lastcoming milk which is fat rich and important in weight gain.
Wishing your baby good health.

Thank you for clarification. also wanted to know how much intervals baby needed feeding.....Dr. suggested if feels that baby is not getting enough food we can give some Lactogen...also wanted to inform you that my baby has got jaundice. ..and he was kept under photo therapy for 48 hrs. is that also one of the reason to loose weight

Brief Answer:
demand feeds

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Baby will need demand feeds.
It can be once in two hours or even every hour as per baby's requirements.
Jaundice and phototherapy can cause water and weight loss, yes.
Try breastfeeding if not working in a few days no harm in adding lactogen as per your doctors advice.
Regards
