Brief Answer:
Normal value is 0.4 - 4.0 mIU/l.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. The normal value for TSH is 0.4 to 4.0. It can vary slightly in different labs. Some labs it is 5- 5.0. So you should see the reference value that lab has given where you done your test. This is due to use of different company reagents.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

I have felt as though I have slight swelling/pressure in the area of my thyroid since January of last year. I have puffy eyes, tired all the time, & just recently started losing my hair. These are symptoms of hypothyroid. Please take a look at this web page http://thyroid.about.com/od/gettestedanddiagnosed/ss/normaltsh.htm If it is possible that I have a mild thyroid problem, then maybe my hair will stop falling out & this feeling in my throat will go away. What is your take on the info from the above link & what do you think could be causing my problems, please?

Brief Answer:
Complete thyroid profile should be seen.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

I have gone through the link you send. I agree that there is controversy in normal ranges. But TSH alone can be can't be taken as criteria when there is slight difference from norms. For that whole thyroid profile should be checked. If TSH is slightly increased and T3 , T4 are in normal range along with clinical symptoms then it is considered as subclinical hypothyroidism and in such case low dose thyroxine will help in normalizing your symptoms. Also if you have swelling in thyroid an ultrasound also should be taken.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
