Brief Answer:
Concussion diagnosed by clinical exam

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. Let me see if I can help you decide whether you have a concussion or not by giving you some basic information.

A concussion is a low level injury to the head which causes some mental status changes in the patient but may not cause any bleeding internally.

There's really no good scale or diagnostic test that can be done to say that a person has a concussion. It's normally up to the treating doctor to put the various bits and pieces of the history together and make the diagnosis.

The main diagnostic criteria are generally things like: 1) Excessive Daytime-sleepyness

2) Slurred speech
3) Short term memory loss
4) Emotional lability (patient has outbursts)
5) There may even be tremors.

If you do have a concussion, you need to be evaluated by a neurologist and maybe even observed over night. So suspicion here is enough. If you suspect you have a concussion or your friend has a concussion.. call 911.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me anything else.

Vinay
