Brief Answer:
As listed

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query about the advantages and side effects of Laparoscopic Hernia operation for the person of 65 years.

Advantages are:
- Small incisions and scars.
- So less chances of infection.
- Early ambulation meaning move around.
- So can join the duties far early.
- Skin incision pain is very less as the incision is small.

Side effects (I think you are talking about disadvantages too):
-Needs General anesthesia and hence increases the risk too.
-There can be co-morbidity like diabetes, hypertension, COPD , all adding to the risk. If there are no co-morbidity- well and good.
-In many cases the swelling may remain, of course this is explained to the patient and relatives.
-May need repeated aspirations is seroma occurs.
- Not good for recurrent hernia or very large hernia.

This is a broad outline of the advantages and disadvantages.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications or if you feel there is a gap of communication.
