What Are The Chances Of STD Transmission Through Unprotected Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2015
Question: I had vaginal sex with a female sex worker using condom. She gave me unprotected blow job and we kissed a lot. I also licked her clitoris briefly. STI risk?
Refrain from sex and tell her of my infidelity until I get tests? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Yes there is a risk of STD.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

Yes after oral sex there is a chance of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV, herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, HPV, and viral hepatitis can be passed on through oral sex. The risk increases if the person giving the blow job has any cuts or scrapes in his or her mouth. See a doctor if there is are any lesion in your genitals or oral region. You cannot get tested immediately and have to wait for 6 weeks for serological and molecular tests to become positive for sexually transmitted diseases.

Take care.

So. This is an upscale sex worker who uses good judgement. I read online that the unprotected fellatio, brief cunnilingus and kisding are actually not that high risk. Does this sound accurate? Thans

Dr XXXXXXX Thanks for your guidance. Two last questions...how long until I would expect to see oral or genital lesions in unlikely event I caught something? And would you think I should get tested after 6 weeks just for peace of mind even if I see no symptoms? Thanks much....

Brief Answer:
Yes tests recommended.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Well come back.

In most instances the symptoms appear during the incubation period of diseases which in most of diseases is about 6 weeks. Yes even if no lesion are seen you can get tested as in some cases the patient is asymptomatic. As far as HIV is concerned you must take a 4 th generation ELISA test after 12 weeks.

Take care
