Question: I have had type 2 diabetes since age 55 I am now 63 and using insulin.I don't smoke and drink occasionally.What are my chances of getting through life with no foot amputations

Thanks for your question noted your concern.

Chances of foot amputation in future may be extremely rare if
- There is good blood sugar control.
- Good blood pressure control.
- Absence of any foot ulcers.
- Absence of smoking tobacco.

I may suggest you to consult your diabetologist for detailed foot examination.
Depending upon foot examination there may be need for assessment of neuropathy and blood supply.

Use of proper foot wear, regular foot examination & avoidance of injuries to foot may keep you free from risk of amputation for life long.
