What Are The Repercussions Of Accidental Intake Of 6 Units Lantus?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Mar 2016
Question: Hello.....I have type 1 diabetes and have accidentally taken 6 units of lantus instead of novo rapid. I normally take 21 units of lantus in the morning. How long do I have to monitor glucose levels today? I'm particularly concerned about sleeping tonight.

Don't bother as I can't wait 24 hours. Can I get my money back?

Brief Answer:
You shouldn't be afraid of sleeping!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this error taking lantus instead of novo rapid. The difference is that lantus will take a longer time to start acting while novo rapid would have acted immediately. s for the quantity of insulin, it is the same and there is no major risk of having low sugars tonight. There is no excess of insulin in your symptom but simply the wrong combination. My advise is that you monitor now, at bedtime and once say at 3am just to make sure we are no missing out on anything. Be calm and relax. There is no major danger here!

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
