What Casues Swelling In Eye Of A Child?

Question: Our 4-year-old son awoke this morning with his right eye swollen about 3/4 shut. The swelling extends up to his hairline. He does have a small mosquito bite on his right temple that he got 2 nights ago, but it is the size of a small pustule, now. He did mention that his head hurt last night, but only once and never asked for ibuprofen. Two mornings ago, he awoke with the ear on that side of his head swollen to nearly twice it's normal size, red and warm to the touch. Today is the first day it is back to normal size. He is an active, otherwise healthy, boy. He is a little small for his age, but on the growth charts. No allergies that we are aware of. (My husband, however is a longtime allergy sufferers during August and fall months.). He also has complained, recently, that his stomach hurts at mealtimes. We thought that it was possibly because he had hand foot and mouth four weeks ago and was vomiting and afraid to eat. Any ideas on what it could be? We hate to clog up the ER for everything when many urgent matters are more important, but won't hesitate to take our children if it is warranted.
Brief Answer:
looks like allergy
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
The pictures and the descriptions suggest allergic dermatitis. It could have been triggered by a mosquito bite or contact allergens commonly being dust mite or pollens in this season.
I would recommend antihistamines like atarax pediatric formulation 5ml thrice a day for such patients.
Stomach hurting could be due to gastritis or recovery from hand foot mouth. If severe lanzoprazole can be given before breakfast to decrease symptoms.
I do believe that the swelling will definitely go down after antihistamines.
