What Causes A Painful And Swollen Vein In The Finger?

Posted on Tue, 27 Sep 2016
Question: Hi I have a painful bulging blue vein in my finger. My finger gets swallon and sore. It's always bruised looking. It hurts and throbs. My dr seemed to think it could be a varicose vein but it's very painful. I don't feel comfortable with this response if it's thrombosis or I risk the finger. I imagine it was caused by swelling from fluid retention and weight gain with my wedding ring. I get fluid swelling everywhere regularly. What do you think? I also get a pulpitating heart sometimes in particular in bed it goes slow then quick, it's quite frightening when it happens. It's worst after a few glasses of red wine.

Detailed Answer:
hi madam.

I appreciate your problem and can feel the difficulty you might be having.
your problem is a nonspecific one. it's difficult to arrive at a diagnosis with the history you have given. examination is needed properly to say something.
I think you are having this problem for few months.
these could be varicose veins, but I doubt. because varicose veins don't pain and they are usually in legs or dependant parts. pain occurs if there is thrombosis of blood in veins.
in such a case a sonogram or doppler study of the involved part may help.
I would like to know the place where you live. such symptoms increase usually in winter. pain and swelling also increase with stagnation of blood. so please take out the ring or wear a loose ring, or you can wear ring in the necklace as a symbol of love.

I suggest you should consult a good physician or an endocrinologist. so that the cause of all the symptoms can be defined.
please feel free to ask further.
