What Causes A Red Rash In The Pubic Area?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Sep 2016
Question: Hi,

I have a small red rash in the mons pubis region. It doesn't hurt or burn but does itch a little bit.
Last week had a single bump which seemed like an ingrown hair which I popped, but seems like now its slightly bigger and either small cluster of bumps or one big as thats what it feels like.

Wondering if this is just an infection from an ingrown hair or something different.

Brief Answer:
Folliculitis....Cleanse with antiseptic only!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these bumps. I have reviewed the images and this is suggestive of an infected hair follicule. Cleansing twice daily with Chorhexidine or Betadine will ensure full healing within 5-7days. It is not suggestive of any possible STI at this time. There is no need fro further medical evaluation at this time unless it becomes worse. Should this occur, please send follow up images for review.
