Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Spondylosis of lumbar vertebrae and pressure over nerves could be the main cause. Back pain associated with change in sensation could be due to it.
2. Progression over time could have caused this. Will need X-ray or MRI of spine for evaluation.
3. Also take Vit B-complex supplements. It would help in nerve regeneration.
