What Causes Bloating And Weakness In Legs Post Synthroid Withdrawal?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I had a cancerous thyroid removed and have been on Synthroid therapy. I have not taken Synthroid since April 1st, per doctors orders so that a scan can be ordered. I feel bloated, have gained weight and feel week in the legs. Are these symptoms consistant with the cessation of Synthroid usage? My currant doctor is unavailable at this time.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare magic.

Yes,your symptoms are very typical for hypothyroidism and are related with cessation of Synthroid. This is expected to happen.
Synthroid (levothyroxine) is a replacement for the hormone normally produced by your thyroid gland.
Since you have one month without Synthroid ,you are having typical symptoms of hypothyroidism like weight gain ,feeling with no energy and lethargic, tired and weak ,constipated ,bloated etc.

Since this is done with the doctor's order, you don't need to worry.Once the scan is done and the Synthroid is started again ,the symptoms will go away.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any question or need any clarifications.I would be happy to help.

Kind regards,
