What Causes Blood Discharge During Bowel Movement?

Question: My 83 year old mother in law thought she had to have a bowel movement, however it was blood, this was at 3 this morning. Now she went in and said it looks like little blood clots. Straight to the emergency room for her I don't know what to do

This can be bleeding from hemorrhoids or even colon cancer. As there is a lot of it and it does not getting better, please do not wait and take her to ER. Blood work and colonoscopy should be done.
