What Causes Blood In Urine In Infants?
Could be maternal hormonal effect / dehydration
Detailed Answer:
Hi....there are 2 reasons which can cause this -
1. Dehydration - but you need not give ORS or Electrobion for it. Avoid ORS-L...its not a WHO approved preparation for correcting dehydration. Ziprax is an antibiotic and I suggest it is also not indicated.... As this is not a bacterial infection. The best way to correct dehydration in this age group is only by giving mother's milk.
2. 2nd possibility is that it could be a maternal hormone induced mild vaginal bleed which could be mixed in the urine giving it a pink color. You need not worry about this as it is a self limiting disorder and will get better by itself.
I suggest you get a urine routine analysis done and get back to me.

Thanks for your immediate reply.., Doctor how long will this pink strains persist (we are seeing it for around one weak) also the baby is not properly feeding, hesitating to take milk most of the times.
Regarding the urine routine analysis: the doctor has made a urine test as well
pus cells 3 to 4
epithelial & rbc's - Nill
UTI - query
And the baby has also reduced in weight last week (0.4 kgs Aprox)
Urine analysis is normal - dehydration due to seas
Detailed Answer:
Hi....the urine routine analysis seems to be completely normal. As it's not showing any RBC's its not bleeding due to hormonal effect either.
I feel its only dehydration due to seasonal changes... Especially summer... And if you are residing in tropics all the more so.
I suggest you to keep the kid well hydrated by giving breast feeds well. The best marker that a kid is well hydrated is the baby will pass urine atleast 6 hours once.
