What Causes Blue Discolouration On Cheeks?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: I have chwed gutkha for 5 years and have been smoking for 6 years now. Also, I drink 2-3 times in a week. When I checked my mouth, I saw light blue color thing on my cheeks though there is no pain but just wanted to check wheter I have cancer or is it something because of food? Just noticed that color has gone. I drank too much that day and I woke up with very dry mouth that morning. I have decided to quit tobacco but want to make sure to compensate for the damage/effect. Anything that you can suggest?

Brief Answer:
Nutritional deficiencies needs to be corrected.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having tobacco addiction . I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any burning sensation during chewing of food ?
Is there any discoloration of teeth or gums ?

Kindly get back to be with these details.

More than 5 years of smoking, chewing tobacco and consumption of alcohol definitely shows changes from lips to stomach. It could be simple discolorations, ulcers, oral sub mucosal fibrosis or cancerous lesions.

I suggest the following measures, to get back to normal changes.

1. complete quitting of smoking, tobacco chewing and alcohol consumption.

2. evaluate with ent surgeon and laryngoscopy procedure to see deeper parts of throat for any lesions, blood tests for nutritional deficiencies (alcoholism causes thiamine deficiency).

3. Antioxident +multivitamin combination for 3 months (medical prescription needed.

4. Good nutritious balanced diet.

5. exercise (lung expansion requires in chronic smoking).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
