What Causes Calf Cramp With Bruising And Swelling?
Question: I has cronic calf cramp 4 weeks ago which caused bruising and swelling. I wemt to the doctors on Thursday and had to go for a scan as the d-dimer blood test showed positive. The scan showed all ok but now they are concerned as to why the d-dimer is positive. could the cronic cramp have caused the trauma that would affect my blood result. ie could i have torn a muscle???
Brief Answer:
D dimer
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
The fact that you have a single sided chronic calf pain associated with swelling and a swollen limb strongly indicates DVT. In our insititute in such cases we put them on anticoagulation and taken them up for a venogram. I strongly advice you to undergo a venogram as well.
Scans for DVT can often be falsely negative, in such cases clinical suspicon is more important.
Chronic cramp causing trauma/ muscle injury cannot elevate D dimer
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
I wish you good health
Regards
