What Causes Chronic Redness In Eyes?

Question: I am over 50 and wear contacts I have chronic redness in the eye and a discharge that seems to circle the entire eye top and bottom and pulls out as a long stringy white mucus. This discharge seems to happen more during the day, rarely do I wake up with crusty eyes, but on occasion I do. Reaching into the corner of my eyes, I can pull the string out and most times it seems to be circled around the eye.
I have OTC eye drops for allergies and rewetting drops for relief. It seems worse latley, not much discomfort except when the mucus builds up, and some burning, redness is constant, mucus builds up a couple of time during the day.

Hi
I have read your query and understand your concern.
You seem to have allergic contact keratoconjunctivitis secondary to use of contact lens.
A Complete eye wash with saline along with culture sensitivity of the eye discharge will help to reveal the infection causing the organisms.
In all cases,i advise you to stop wearing the contact lens.
An empirical therapy with methyl cellulose eye drops every 2 nd hourly along with antibiotic eye drops like olopatadine
olopat will help

Can any over the counter medications eyedrops or eye wash work or do I have to see and optometrist professional
Can this be a sensitivity to contact storage or eye drop solutions?

Brief Answer:
Visit Eye specialist at the earliest
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.
Yes there is even this possibility of acquiring this infection from infected eye solutions for contact lens.
You certainly need to visit an optometrist specialist.
OTC drugs will not help.
Thank you.
