What Causes Dizziness After Taking Hydroxyzine?
Question: I was started on a med called hydroxyzine. I only took 4 pills from Friday to Sunday. I became very dizzy and light headed. My doctor said to stop. They were 25 mg. I am still dizzy/light headed. Today I was sitting in a meeting and I all of a sudden lost a span of time. I didn't hear anyone speaking and don't remember doing any of my work. It was like i blacked out but didn't pass out. My rt ear felt weird after. I have a sore neck on the rt also that leads to the base of my skull. Like I slept wrong. My psych is treating me for anxiety and PTSD because I found my son 3 months ago hanging from a door when I got home from work. Also known as dorr knob hanging. A form of suicide. :-(. There you have it. Can u help or should I go in to be seen?

I am very sorry that you passed through such tragedy , anyway god will help you.
As you mentioned that you are taking alprazolam, lorazepam,effexor, hydroxyzine for last 3 months for tension , depression and anxiety ( after tragedy ).
Now with these medicine also taking topiramate , atenolol omeprazole .
You also took allerga and iburpofen .
Suddenly in meeting you faced so many problems like dizziness, sudden loss a span of time , speech problems , changes in vision , coordination of movement , sore neck .
All these symptoms , may be due to these reasons, these include;
1 Topiramate ( current medicine beside atenolol and omeprazole ) causes (side effects) confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, generalized SLOWING of MENTAL & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES ( as happened in your case), difficulty in concentration & ataxia( as in your case),abnormal vision ( as in your case ), mood or mental changes , behavioral changes ( as in your case ), nervousness and many other side effects.
This is a typical case where all the side effects simulate with the side effects of TOPIRAMATE .
2 As you mentioned that you are also taking hydroxyzine and allegra ( fexofenadine ) , as these both drugs potentiates the action of CNS depressant drugs like lorazepam , alprazolam . effexor .
3 Hypotension may be the another reason of such symptoms ( because you are also taking atenolol ( antihypertensive ) . This may be the reason of hypotension.
Still you are feeling dizziness and lightheaded so physical examination is important for estimation of blood pressure .
So please consult your treating physician and get his opinion regarding side effects of these drugs and also about the blood pressure .
In my opinion consult your psychiatrist as well physician and correlate the drugs .
I can say only one thing that the tragedy has occurred and nobody can change it . So try to adjust according to circumstances and decrease the drugs gradually with the help of your doctors.

Thank You for responding to me. I have discontinued all the anxiety meds including the hydroxyzine which i took the last dose on sunday night at 6. I do agree with you about my blood pressure. I was wondering if it may be getting to low as i have lost another 13 lbs and the last time i lost enough weight and was on bp meds it was bringing my bp down to low. I just wasnt sure if the feelings i was having were still side effects of the hydroxyzine. I thought it would be out of my system since i only took 1 pill and that was at 6 on Sunday night. I haven't had any problems with the topiramate at all and i have been on that since 2013. I will be seeing my therapist tomorrow and will have her pass this all on to my psych. Anything else you feel i should know will be great. Thank You Again .

Weight loss has no connection to low blood pressure. However I see many patients with low blood pressure also being under weight. Without physical examination and evaluation, I will not be able to link those, I hope your doctor is able to get those done during the visit.
If I were your treating doctor, I will like to get your hemoglobin, vitamin levels and calcium levels analsyed. Abnormalities in these factors can be a cause of dizziness.
I will also suggest you discuss about synergestic effects of medicines especially topiramate and allergra which can be responsible.
