Posted on Wed, 16 Sep 2015
Question: I've had Parkinson's for over 10 years; in 2006 I had my first Pancreatic attack (hospitalized for 10 days), broke both wrists (Left in 2007-right in 2008); another pancreatic attack in 2014 (8 weeks in hospital) which now lead to I think diabetes type 1 . My glucose count was normal until July of this year. Then it skyrocketed. (about 17.0-21.0 periodically). What should I do?

Brief Answer:
You need Insulin for diabetes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.

After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

Your diabetes is most likely a Pancreatic diabetes.

In pancreatic diabetes there is defect in insulin secretion by pancreas and not insulin resistance as in Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.

Hence Metformin has no role in the treatment of pancreatic diabetes.

In pancreatic diabetes insulin is the only treatment for blood sugar control.

But in your case as your doctor has prescribed metformin for your diabetes on which blood sugar was normal until July, there may be possibility of concomitant insulin resistance (though chances are extremely rare).

Tab Creaon is a pancreatic enzyme supplement and not for blood sugar control.

As your blood sugar levels are quite high 17 to 21 mmol/l, there is need for immediate insulin treatment.

You should consult near by diabetologist or endocrinologist for detailed clinical evaluation and appropriate treatment for diabetes control.

Hope I have answered your question.
I will be happy to answer your follow up question, if any.
