What Causes Elevation In Resting Heart Rate While Treating A Chest Infection?
Question: I have just measured a resting heart rate of 108bpm. I went to the doctors and had a resting heart rate of105 bpm. I am currently battling a chest Infection, but have had heartpains since Christmas. What shall i do?

As I start I would like to reassure you that nothing is wrong with your heart and it is healthy.
Here we have to understand that heart rate is a vital sign of our body , it changes according to the need of the body .
Now an ongoing infections increases the metabolic rate of our body for which more oxygen is needed, to compensate for this heart has to beat more number of times to supply enough oxygen .
So pulse being 108 is a compensatory phenomenon and will return to normal as soon as the infection is cured .
The heart pain is also related to resolving chest infection and is due to inflammation of the covering of the heart.
Lastly if it continues to remain high and you have symptoms like increased sweating , heat intolerance, palpitation, loose stools and increased appetite , Rule out hyper thyroid state .
