What Causes Empty Sac At Gestation Of 7 Week?
Question: I went for an ultrasound yesterday, and there was only an empty sac. I'm 7 weeks pregnant. is there a possibility the embryo was hiding or will I have a miscarriage?
Brief Answer:
Less chances of live pregnancy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
Empty sac at gestation of 7 weeks is called a blighted ovum and has very less chance of being viable eventually.
But still send me your ultrasound report and I would like to know date of your last period and that if your periods are regular.
Till then take bed rest and avoid heavy work or sexual activity.

my periods are not regular, they are anywhere from 28 to 38 days - last period was a 29 day cycle, and it was 13 Apr 2014. I do not have a copy of my ultrasound. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Repeat ultrasound after one week.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, according to your dates your gestation right now is 7 weeks 3 days which co-incites with your ultrasound.
In my opinion this is a blighted ovum only ( also called as missed abortion) and in simple words it is a baby which was unable to grow beyond a certain point.
But as your cycles were irregular just wait for a week and repeat the ultrasound and in case still there is no sign of improvement then visit your gynecologist for termination.
But in case there occurs any bleeding them visit your doctor immediately.
Wish you all the best.
