What Causes Extremely Blooshot Eyes

Question: I am a 61 year old male, no major health issues (HBP, diabetes etc.) am on no prescribed medications. Saturday afternoon both my eyes became extremely bloodshot. There was no discernible reason, i.e. did not take a blow to the face, was not lifting any extremely heavy weight, no heavy drinking the night before, no sudden deceleration. At the time my wife noticed it we were both watching TV. Currently both eyes are still bloodshot but no pain or trouble seeing. What is this, how can I treat it until I can see my optometrist on Monday?
Brief Answer:
Conservative treatment
Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
This seems a subconjunctival hemorrhage. A photograph would be helpful. This is bursting of blood vessels and small leakage of blood. This takes at least 2 weeks to resolve on it's own. This does not need any treatment. Visine as such is good enough for you and you can continue using it .You will be fine .
As you rightly mentioned reasons may be exertion,bp or constipation.. At times there is no reason found and it may be due to some fragility of vessels.
Continue with Visine.
Any further query in this regard please do get back to me.
