What Causes Hard Mass In Right Buttock?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
I do suffer from constant hemorrhoids.
49 yrs old, 6'3", 240lbs
A bit worried it doesn't seem to be going away.
Do I need to seek medical treatment? Any idea what the cause may be?
No reason to be worried. We need to see if its an abscess or a hemorrhoid.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Can you please attach a photo of it so I can give more precise answer?
A hard mass close to the anal verge could be an abscess. Abscess is a lump filled with pus. It is very characteristic for it to give pain when touching it. Abscess in this area is usually caused by an infection of the skin glands. Other less common reasons are things like a fistula - a kind of unnatural connection between the other part of rectum and the skin.
It is also possible that what you have felt is a part of hemorrhoid. It could get hard due to blood clot.
For sure there is no reason to be worried. But you need to look at your digestive tract as a whole part.
Please note that hemorrhoids are an external indication of how you have been handling with your digestive tract for many years.
This means that there might be the other place inside the large intestine which can be in the same as hemorrhoids condition.
The main factors of hemorrhoids are diet and constipation. Unfortunately same factors can lead to more serious digestive tract diseases. The worst one is colon cancer.
I do not tell you have a cancer, for 95% you dont. But you are more prone for this cancer in the future. And as the risk of colon cancer significantly rises over the age of 50, it is a good time right now to have your first colonoscopy done.
This is the most important reason to consult a doctor.
If its about the lump, you should show it to a general surgeon or proctologist. This is nothing serious, but some treatment might be necessary. In case of abscess, incision and drainage should be done.
Hemorrhoids (depending of its stage) can be treated with surgery.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
