What Causes Headaches And Hot Flashes After Discontinuing Prempro?
Question: I have been taking prempro for 5 years. I am 54 years old and in good health and active. A week ago I had an emergency surgery for removal of my gallbladder. My primary care doctor told me to stop taking prempro for 4 weeks. I am experiencing hot flashes and headaches. I really want to start taking prempro again. What do you think?
Brief Answer:
Prempro increases the risk of blood clots after surgery
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.
The only reason why your doctor has stopped you taking this drug is because it is well proven that it increases the risk of post-operative thromboembolic complications, like Myocardial infarction, stroke, pulmonary emboli, Deep venous thromboses.
The optimal time is 4 weeks. Since then the risks outweigh the possible benefits.
Hope this helps
