What Causes Heavy Post Menstrual Bleeding With Mucus And Clots?

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Dec 2015
Question: I've been heavily bleeding with many clots for about 2 weeks now from my vagina, rectum and I've been on Nitrofur for 2 weeks now. Also, at one point some kind of gigantic, I mean really gigantic lining-film-clear-mucus looking substance came out of what I think was my vagina, but I couldn't tell for sure because it all fell out as soon as a stepped out of my beed. There was no pain during the whole indicident. I'm don't really know what it was to be sure. But to be honest, to me it looked like some kind of large lining came out. The heavy dark red bleeding with bleeding have been continuing now for more that 2 weeks. I'm 58, my menopause was in my forties. I've just moved to Southfield, Michigan, and need an older, experienced obgyn. My husband divorced me. No kids.

Brief Answer:
post menopausal bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
This is post menopausal bleeding and hence if there has been continuous bleed for last 2 weeks with dark red colour and an episode of lining like mass / blob which came out of vagina and that the bleeding is occurring from rectum as well, it is vey important that you should seek immediate gynaecology attention to rule out cervical cancer here. The involvement of rectum in bleeding is not a good sign at all as it indicates spread.
It is important that a per speculum and a per vaginal examination be undertaken to look for any cervical growth and its extensions and if seen a punch biopsy may be undertaken for histopathology for histology and grading of tumour.
Other causes of bleeding can be a possibly endometrial hyperplasia/ cancer or vaginal growth/ tumour.
In either cases an urgent visit to a gynaecologist and then possibly to a gyn-oncologist would be pertinent and asap.
