Question: My doctor just called my he wants me to do calcium ct score test..I had the test done in XXXXXXX 2012 and the score was 0.. But he wants me to do it again because my cardiac crp score is high at 4.9! Is that test for cardiac markers only? Or does it reflect other inflammation in the body? I have two boils on my leg..I do not want to repeat the test if I do not have to because of the radiation..I also have vascular changes in the back of my eye..I exercise but I do have anxiety at times..also have transient high blood pressure ..higher pulse rate 80-95 most of the time my pressure is good ...

Brief Answer:
Yes the boils are responsible for this.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
CRP is a marker of inflammation & can be high in a lot of conditions including active infection (like your boil).
So i don't think you need to go for repeat coronary calcium score & can just monitor the CRP level when infection is gone.
Avoid anxiety & keep monitoring your bp so that the bp medications can be adjusted accordingly.
I wish you a good health
Thanks

I have not been on blood pressure meds..although my blood pressure has been a little high with this blood work..130/93.. Most of the time my blood pressure is pretty good..I take my blood pressure on a regular basis..my doc gave me meds atenonal to take as needed when my pressure gets high..is the transient blood pressure causing the vascular changes in my eye? I exercise eat well..not a red meat eater..I am surprised at the test results..I do have health anxiety ..so every time I go to the doctors my blood pressure jumps up to 160/100 but after I calm down it relaxes the numbers..should I be on meds so I can avoid the ups and downs of blood pressure..can that cause higher crp and vascular changes in the eye

Please see the detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If you have hypertensive retinopathy than your bp must be high regularly. High CRP do not cause such retinopathy. A BP of 130/93mm Hg but i think your bp must be higher than this that has caused retinopathy. We have a test called ABP(Ambulatory BP monitoring) which can detect it better. You can get that test done.
Till than avoid extra salt in diet, do exercise regularly & eat healthy food.
Thanks
