What Causes High ESR Levels?
Question: hello high ESR in typhoid.
We did test 2 days back ESR was 20, now todays test ESR is 70+. We are worried. He is having detected typhoid from past 10 days and fever from 20 days. He lost is complete apetitie. Are thesee symptoms of cancer or its just a typhoid. he is my father and I really wish nothing is serious . plz respond asap

In the report ( of XXXXXXX XXXXX, age 63 years ) , it is clearly mentioned that E S R is very high ( say 79 mm of first hour). Usually this is due to some chronic disease ( reason of such chronic disease may be bacteria etc),however some doctor differ this .
Your father is having fever , since 20 days ,the fever may be due to these reasons , these include:
1 Tuberculosis , diagnosis can be confirmed by X Ray chest P A view . As you mentioned that anorexia ( loss of appetite ) present , e s r high , long case of fever , not responding to antibiotics , so all these may be due to tuberculosis . So please get in Purified Protein Derivative(PPD)-Tuberculin Skin Test .
2 Jaundice is another reason of such type of fever . Diagnosis can be confirmed by blood examination for LIVER function test , as SGOT , SGPT , serum bilirubin ,for Hepatitis .
3 Typhoid fever , diagnosis can be confirmed by Widal test and serology test .
However, there are so many other reasons of such fever ( you didn't mention about type of fever like with chills (shivering ), rigor , low grade or high grade , sweating , regular or continue etc) as malaria ( untreated ) , urinary infection , so very difficult to establish any diagnosis with this information as mentioned in your query.
So deal as I mentioned above and consult a PHYSICIAN ( 2nd opinion ) and get his opinion.

We did PA chest, it came out normal
We also did LFT , it turned out to be normal.
My dad is now under Ceftriaxone injection - MONOCEF 2G. twice a day. He seems to be reacting to the medicine. his appetite has increased. He gained some freshness in face. Still he doesnt eat properly, he takes 1/10 of food he use to take before.
He gets 101 Deg F temperature every night, which subsides after giving crocin.
He doesnt get chills, before IV injection, he use to sweat a lot from head. Now its stopped.
He was tested negative for malaria also.
PLease advise if its typhoid and if its curable... ?
