Suggest Medication To Suppress Appetite To Control Gaining Weight

Since I have stopped smoking I have put on a lot of weight. What is the best over counter remedy to help suppress my appetite. I have a heart condition so can t use any stimulants. Many years ago I was given tablets that worked but I cant remember the name of them. I remember thinking at the time they must have been named after anorexia because there was a lot of this word in the name. Something like anore????? Do you have any idea what these could have been.

Hi,

Regarding over the counter options, there are not any appetite suppressants that are available over the counter that have any significant benefit. I would recommend that you consider asking your physician to prescribe topiramate (Topamax). This has been added to a number of weight loss medications as it tends to promote some weight loss and suppress appetite. It is prescribed independently for the same purpose. It is not a controlled substance and is very inexpensive, traditionally it is used for migraine prophylaxis but has the added benefit of weight loss.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
