default
Posted on Fri, 5 Jun 2015
Question: My blood pressure is 130/94. My age is 43 years. Is my blood pressure OK with respect to my age? Should I take some medicine for this or it is not required. If I need to take some medicine, please inform which one and for how long? Till about a year back, my blood pressure was normal 120/80.

Brief answer...your diastolic pressure is definitely high and needs correction
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Lower BP reading which is 94 in you is called as diastolic blood pressure and should be below 80 in normal people.People with reading between 80 to 89 are called as having prehypertension while reading above is called as hypertension.
Although any diastolic reading below 95 doesn't give any immediate health risk if you don't have additional risks like diabetes, kidney disease, obesity, smoking but this still needs to be corrected because uncorrected high diastolic blood pressure will eventually lead to high systolic blood pressure ( upper reading ).
If you don't have additional risks as mentioned above, then by merely changing your lifestyle, high diastolic blood pressure can be corrected.
If above mentioned risk factors are present, then consult your doctor for prescription of medicine and in addition adopt the lifestyle changes.
Lifestyle changes required are ...
Eating less salt
Avoiding ACHAAR,PAPAD,CHUTNEY,PICKLES,SAUCES ( these contain high salt )
Doing regular aerobic exercises for at least 45 minutes
Shedding your weight and being in your normal range of BMI
Quitting smoking,if any
Moderating your alcohol
Avoiding junk foods, fatty foods and colas
Consuming more of green vegetables and fresh fruits etc.
Give these methods a try for 6 months and see the result.
In case your diastolic BP doesn't get corrected in next 6 months, you should consult your doctor for prescription of anti hypertensive medicines.
I am legally bound to not prescribe you any prescription based medicine and moreover i can not examine and follow you up in future,so the best is to consult your doctor who can repeatedly see and examine you.
I am always available for any advice on any health related query and you can address them to me( with my name )
I hope it helps however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
