Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 72 year old woman in good health with elevated BP in morning. Started Bystolic ( less than 2 mg at night) My BP was 113/68 with pulse of 62. Am I getting too low? My family doc says too low is a risk factor for stroke in older women. What say?
Hello Mam, the blood pressure 113 / 68 is perfectly withen normal limits. It doesn't increase your overall risk of stroke, though some individual papers in scientific community has mentioned the same, so you will read it somewhere online, however the authenticity of such publication is questionable. Rather the most large trials including thousands of patients across the globe haven't found so, in contract diction it has recommended reduction in blood pressure less than 120 / 80 to reduce risk of stroke.
Lastly as a Cardiologist I would like to say, every human has a different physiology, don't try to fight it out. The blood pressure mentioned is perfectly withen normal limits and gives you best protection against heart issues and even stroke. Keep good hydration. Regards Dr.Priyank Mody
